Mrs. Maki H. Giles Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Giles, Maki H., 86, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, translated into Heaven with Jesus on June 23, 2022. Maki is survived by her four children: Frederick, David, Catherine (Ralph), and Susan (Frank), two grandchildren: Carolyn and Christian, and a great-grandson: Kai; who share the following memories and tributes about her life. From Frederick: Born and raised in Japan, a descendant of the samurai Honda Masazumi, she came from a long line of medical doctors. After enduring WW2 hardships, she married her husband, Martin Giles, at Misawa Air Force Base, and moved to Plant City, Florida in 1960. Her mother-in-law Lois led her to Jesus, and after being Baptized in the Holy Spirit in 1966, she became a fearless witness of the Gospel to everyone. She brought many people to the Lord. Maki was a positive, joyful person in spite of life’s trials, innocent and without guile, easy to forgive, and always put her husband, children and others first. She had a hearty laugh and a soaring alto singing voice and loved unconditionally, giving generously to her church, Christian ministries, and the poor. We miss her dearly, and life will never be the same without her, but we will see her again soon in that Place where there are no more tears, no more pain, no more dying, and no more goodbyes. From David: To my beloved mother: You will always hold a special place in my heart. You were the kindest, most caring person I have ever known. I miss your warm, friendly smile and unique sense of humor. There will never be another you! You are special in the eyes of God. Rest In Peace! From Cathy: Dear Mama - how can I thank you for a lifetime of your love, prayers, laughter, and joy? And for teaching me by example, from the first day of my life to the last day of yours, that “Yes, Jesus loves me!”. I will miss you so much until I see your beautiful face again in Heaven. I love you, Mama. Philippians 1:3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. From Susie: My mom loved me. She loved God and she loved people. She had such a capacity for giving and loving on people. For some, gaining material things is a goal, fancy cars, mega mansions. That wasn’t her. Her goal was winning people to the kingdom of God. And she lived her life in light of eternity. She was incredibly humble, but one of the smartest people I have ever known. I have lost an adventurous travel partner, intercessor and friend. I miss her radiant presence, beautiful smile and her singing. Her love lives on in me. From Frank: Maki was a wonderful, courageous woman of faith who brought love, compassion, friendship and His word to this world. Blessed were those who had the fortune of being part of her life and those who had the opportunity of a mere, brief encounter. Maki was a positive force in so many lives. More than she could ever know or imagine. She was ever hopeful and full of life, despite the many challenges she faced. She persevered. Maki was always there with a prayer, an offering and a loving hug to those in need. She was an authentic and unique woman whose love, smile, laughter, funny faces, wit and life stories I will miss always, but hold in my heart, along with memories that will bring a warm feeling and a smile to my face when I think of her. Maki, you are God’s child in heaven now and there is comfort knowing you are with Him, basking in His love. From Carolyn: Psalm 18:28-30 For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can ‘run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is ‘proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. From Christian: Grammy was a really good woman. She really loved me and I am gonna miss her. Maki is also survived by her brother-in-law, John (Charlotte), many nieces and nephews, her relatives in Japan, and countless friends. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 8 at 4:00 P.M. at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 South County Road 39, Plant City, where the family will receive friends beginning at 3:00 P.M.
