Mrs. Barbara Faye Cagnina

On a sunny day in February 1957 in Bald Knob Kentucky Barbara Faye Duncan was brought into this world. She grew up a Kentucky girl with her two sisters Trish and JoKay under the guidance of her loving parents Jim and Marilyn Duncan. Barbara excelled in school with a passion for music. She played saxophone in the school band and later at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. While studying at UK she had the opportunity to study under and play with the famous Cannonball Atherly. Although Barbara loved to play music, studies did not interest her, and she lost her passion. Barbara loved people, she never met a stranger and enjoyed having a conversation with anyone. She could be behind you in the check-out line and by the time your groceries were bagged you had made a new friend, she loved it. Barbara’ voce was always the loudest in the room you could hear her long before she entered the room. Although she never drank alcohol, her ability and willingness to reach out to people and make them feel at ease made her a natural fit for the hospitality industry. After she left school, she started bar tending and quickly excelled to manager at the Monkey’s Uncle in Frankfort. In 1980 she and a couple of her girlfriends decided to travel to Florida where she met my sister Andrea who introduced us. Sparks flew and we quickly fell in love and in 1989 we moved in together tying the knot in 1992. With her great organizational skills and great attitude Barbara started working in the property management industry as an executive assistant at Cushman Wakefield. After a few years she was offered a position at Trammel Crow working as a personal assistant to Bruce Earhart in Tampa. Unfortunately, Barbara’s health has never been good and in the early 2000’s she was forced into health-related retirement. Barbara’s was very adventurous and enjoyed traveling. in the summer of 1989, we took the “Land Yacht II’ a 23’ motor home on a two-month sojourn crisscrossing the US from the great lakes to the Pacific coast, what a trip we had. Although Barbara was self-proclaimed Clutz, she took up snow skiing at my request and quickly fell in love with the sport. We took several trips a year for several years finding our favorite slopes in Steamboat Springs Co. Unfortunately, she not only fell in love with the sport, but she also fell a lot on the slopes. After several injuries we decided it was best, we gave that up. Over the years we took numerous adventures most notable our trips to Alaska, The Bahamas, Mexico, Guatemala and visiting our friends in Costa Rica. Barbara loved animals, she always wanted a horse and loved to ride, but taking care of a horse was too demanding on her health so we settled for dogs instead. Her “Children” as she called them were number one to her. Her precious pups preceding her in passing were her beloved Sadie, Ginger, Geneva, Mr Handsom, Missy Doodle and the Princess Jasmine. She loved and spoiled each and every one of them. A dog could not have had a better “Mother”. Barbara was preceded In passing by both her parents mother Marily and father Jim. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years John and her two surviving children Charlie Brown and Wee Willie, sisters Trish Duncan and JoKay O’Bryan, along with many nieces nephews and cousins. Also to mention is her 92-year-old mother-in-law Adrienne Cagnina who she fondly referred to as “Mom” She will be greatly missed by all her friends and relatives around the country. It is impossible to express her loss to me in words, rest in peace my sweet baby. There will be a ceromony to honor Barbara's life here on earth at our property on November 4th at 2pm. Tributes and testimonials will be followed by a sharing of bread with a pot luck dinner. Please all come and bring your favorite dish. It would bring a smile to Barbara's face to see you all there.
