Our father, Pedro Mendoza De La Luz, was a happy man full of love and energy. He filled the room with booming laughter and always drew attention with grand gestures. He was the steady heartbeat of our family, the gentle force that kept us grounded and gave us roots. Dad was born on January 9, 1945, in a small-town San Miguel Tecomatlan Guerrero, where everyone knew everyone. He carried that sense of community and family with him throughout his life, always ready with a helping hand for a neighbor or a kind word for a stranger. We remember countless afternoons dad would be working outside. He enjoyed being outside and always kept busy. Dad would work on his home projects, and we would watch, mesmerized by his skilled hands. He did not say much, but in those quiet moments, he taught us the value of patience, precision, and taking pride in your work. Dad was a man of simple pleasures. A cup of coffee in the mornings, of course his beer in the evenings, Sunday services, Mom’s home cooking, Annual family vacation trips. He found joy in the everyday moments that many of us overlook. He loved his music, and his dance moves were one of a kind. We had the pleasure of watching and witnessing. He lived for his family and loved seeing all his grandchildren grow up and was very prideful and proud of his babies. In his final days, as we sat by his bedside, Dad’s quiet strength never wavered. He faced the end with the same grace and dignity with which he had lived his life. His last words to us were, “Be kind to each other.” Simple, yet profound – just like Dad. Pedro Mendoza De La Luz may not have changed the world in any newsworthy way, but he changed our world. He showed us that true strength lies in gentleness, that love is expressed not just in words, but in actions, and that a life well-lived is one filled with kindness, integrity, and unwavering love for family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Guadalupe Mendoza of 58 years of marriage, his seven children Norma Mendoza, Pedro Mendoza Jr, Maria Del Rosario “Rosa” Cortez Mendoza, Amado Mendoza, Ricardo Mendoza, Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Mendoza, and Liliana Rosales. His seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren that he had the opportunity to hold and love which he called all of them “my babies.” A funeral service will be held Friday, December 20 at 10:00 A.M. at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 South County Road 39, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 A.M. Llenaba la habitación de carcajadas y siempre llamaba la atención con grandes gestos. Él era el latido constante del corazón de nuestra familia, la fuerza que nos mantenía con los pies en la tierra y nos daba raíces. Pedro nació el 9 de enero de 1945 en un pequeño pueblo de San Miguel, Tecomatlán, Guerrero, donde todos se conocían. Llevó ese sentido de comunidad y familia con él a lo largo de su vida, siempre listo con una mano amiga para un vecino o una palabra amable para un extraño. Recordamos innumerables tardes en las que el le encantaba trabajar afuera. Le gustaba estar al aire libre y siempre se mantenía ocupado. El siempre trabajabando en los proyectos de su casa y nosotros mirábamos, hipnotizados por sus hábiles manos. No dijo mucho, pero en esos momentos de tranquilidad, nos enseñó el valor de la paciencia, la precisión y el orgullo por su trabajo. Pedro era un hombre de placeres sencillos. Una taza de café por las mañanas, por supuesto su cerveza por las noches, la comida en casa de Lupe (su querida esposa), y los viajes anuales de vacaciones con la familia. Encontró alegría en los momentos que muchos de nosotros pasamos por alto. Amaba su música y sus movimientos de baile que eran únicos y que muchos tuvimos el placer de ver y bailar con el. Vivía para su familia y le encantaba ver crecer a todos sus nietos y estaba muy orgulloso de sus bebés. En sus últimos días, mientras nos sentábamos junto a su cama, la fuerza silenciosa de Pedro nunca se debilito. Afrontó el final con la misma gracia y dignidad con la que había vivido su vida. Sus últimas palabras para nosotros fueron: “Sed amables los unos con los otros”. Simple, pero profundo, como papá. Puede que Pedro Mendoza De La Luz no haya cambiado el mundo de ninguna manera periodística, pero cambió nuestro mundo. Nos mostró que la verdadera fuerza radica en la amabilidad, que el amor no solo se expresa en palabras, sino también en acciones, y que una vida bien vivida está llena de bondad, integridad y amor incondicional por la familia. Deja a su amada esposa Guadalupe Mendoza de 58 años de matrimonio, sus siete hijos Norma Mendoza, Pedro Mendoza Jr, María Del Rosario “Rosa” Cortez Mendoza, Amado Mendoza, Ricardo Mendoza, María Guadalupe “Lupita” Mendoza y Liliana Rosales. Sus diecisiete nietos y cuatro bisnietos a los que tuvo la oportunidad de abrazar y amar, a los que llamó a todos “mis babies”. Se llevará a cabo un funeral el viernes 20 de diciembre a las 10:00 a. m. en Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 South County Road 39, donde la familia recibirá a sus amigos a partir de las 9:00 a.m. El sepelio se realizará en Hopewell Memorial Gardens.
